I love this quilt because it gets rid of both a UFO and some scraps!
I had this great backing fabric with all the color names you can imagine written on it, and I had just finished backing a quilt with it. Did NOT want to put the scraps in a scrap drawer if I could help it–those are overflowing!
At the same time, I had these great little sew-and-flip stars from a block swap and needed to do something with them. Serendipity!
Here is a single block showing the quilting:Here is the finished quilt:

I like how the stars look free formed. Thanks for sharing.

You must be very happy with this lovely, fresh looking quilt. Congrats on completing a UFO
Thanks! I thought of you this morning when I noticed that my dried persimmons were grown in South Africa. The trees are native here, so I was surprised.
The world is shrinking. Thanks for thinking of me. Juicy fresh oranges are in season here at the moment. Not sure if persimmons are part of the citrus family
Oh, this really works. It’s a stand alone piece but with the extremely added pluses of using up plenty of scraps and finishing up a WIP. The printed ‘color’ fabric unites it all together and the quilting enhances rather than overtakes the quilt.
Are you using your own pattern for those stars?
Yes, the group has made so many sew and flip stars that most of us don’t even need instructions any more 🙂
There’s a link to my star instructions on the ribbon at the head of my blog.
I thought I remembered you ‘inventing’ this – so glad it’s easy to access via that button instead of digging deep into prior blog posts.
Mille grazie.
Using scraps and redeeming a UFO–what an accomplishment! And besides, it looks good.
Thanks, Clare!
I love the fabric with all the color words! I’ve never tried the sew and flip method to make stars. Is it difficult?
Sew and flip is very easy once you get the hang of it. There’s a link to my tutorial on the ribbon under the blog header. It’s misnamed flip and sew, but whatever 🙃
Thanks. I will check it out.
Bravo on hitting two quilting birds with one stone! I think the finished quilt looks great, and love all the colorful stars inbetween the color words. Congratulations!
Thanks, Elizabeth 🙂
Really cute.
