After much deliberation about layout, I got my Modern Sampler quilt put together last week and sent it off to be quilted. Here’s the final top:
Then, for good measure, I put together the batik blocks from a swap I was in several years ago and sent that top off to be quilted, as well.
Yes, the sashing DOES vary a bit, because the blocks do. That’s the way it goes with a block swap. I love the variety of the blocks and, of course, the batik fabrics.
I’m sending this to Aunt Marti’s UFO challenge, which helps keep me motivated. What are you up to?
I love the colors used in the Modern Sampler. What will the backing look like?
I am backing it with plain muslin, having recently made the mistake of using a printed backing that tried to show through on the front! The solids in the sampler are Alissa Haight Carlton’s modern solid cross weaves, now regrettably no longer available.
That is something to keep in mind that I hadn’t thought of before! 🙂 Thank you for sharing.
The batiks are especially gorgeous, and a nice variety of blocks. As for me, it has been a mental quilting week. About time to commit to one version.
Ah, yes, the mental quilting can take as long as the sewing! I hope it goes together well once settle on an arrangement 😊
Love your modern sampler. The way you set your blocks make it look like they are floating. Good call on the backing fabric. The batik fabric blocks are beautiful. Funny how swaps work out, but they look stunning.
Thanks for visiting! Glad you like the sampler. Later this year I’m planning to design one all at once (this was design-as-you-go) and feature the blocks on my blog so everyone can do all if them if desired.
