Did Someone Say Scrap Quilt?

I modified this from multiple quilts I have seen because I liked the idea of turning squares into those elongated hexagons as well as the idea of pointing everything toward the center.

Not incidentally, it also used some more of my (many, many) 5″ squares.

It’s sometimes important for Elvis to make an appearance 🙂

I wasn’t sure about this binding, but I think it worked out OK. That’s not my usual type of backing, but it was available on short notice!

  1. It’s great! It’s filed away to steal someday. I like the alternating square/oblong, and the alternating light background and dark background. I’ll have to cut more 5-inch squares before I can do it. 🙂

    • Hey Kathy,

You haven’t said anything in your blog about your cochlear implant in a while. How’s that going?

You may wonder why I’m interested. 1)We had a patient with a cochlear implant years ago and I always was the one to see her because she still needed the provider to look directly at her and speak clearly. The doctor hadn’t the patience 🙄 2)My personal trainer has a hearing impairment and is about to try hearing aids. I suspect others are surrounded by folks with hearing problems as well, so I appreciate your sharing.

      • Thanks for asking. I will give an update in my blog tomorrow. Speech reading is critical for us with hearing loss. Unfortunately, those who lose their hearing later in life do not always have speech reading ability. But thank you for taking the time with your patient. I’m sure it meant the world to them.
Good luck to your trainer. I love my digital hearing aids.

  2. This is a winner of a quilt! I’ve used that “stripey” block technique, only reversed it for a signature block. I never even thought to put the dark in the center until I saw yours. Wow! Such a terrific quilt! I need to get making some scrappy quilts — I have too many scraps hanging around, and this is a lovely inspiration. Congratulations on a great finish!
