The Bloem (pronounced “bloom”) quilt by Libs Elliott caught my eye on a visit to Five Little Monkeys, and I promptly went home and made it–with a few variations.
First, of course, I drew it in EQ8 so I could make some changes and try various color schemes.
I changed a few of the blocks as well.
And here’s a detail of the quilting.

I think I’ll hang this one up to look at it for a while ๐

Yes! It needs to be on display for you to admire your (he)art! Do you have a place in mind? Along the staircase near that fantastic window, perhaps? Oh and Ms Nichols’ quilting really adds that perfect ‘something’ to the entire piece.
Thank you! And I’ll be sure to tell Linda you like her quilting ๐
Oh, it’s lovely! Great color choices!
Thanks!
I’d definitely put it where I could look at it for a while. I love the bright colors. And thanks for the illustration of the amazing different looks color and placement changes make.
I love using EQ to try out different designs before committing to fabric. Thanks for coming by and commenting ๐
Love the quilting! Was that done free motion?
The quilting is a panto called Champagne. Linda has used it for several of my quilts and I love it! Thanks for asking.
I really like the way you make a pattern your own. Love everything about this quilt!
Thanks! It’s one of my faves so far. In fact, I’m getting ready to do another of her patterns ๐
That is gorgeous and you are such a whiz at EQ!
Thanks ๐ There are now online EQ classes that have been very helpful!
It’s smashingly colorful, bright, happy, and very “you.” I love what you did, and how you seem to so easily manipulate designs in EQ8. I guess I feel comfortable using EQ8, but often do not make – literally – what I have designed in that software. I need to remember to use it more often, rather than wing it by cutting up fabric, putting it on the design wall, and hoping it works! You have a gorgeous quilt here. Well done You!
Thank you. Yes, it’s quicker/cheaper/easier to manipulate the design in EQ than on the design wall! Of course, there’s still a chance of making design changes in fabric as well ๐
Glorious. Enjoy looking at it.
Libs Elliott has a distinctive style. Her fabrics have that same look. Love it
Yes, I just discovered Libs Elliott and I’m already planning to make another of her patterns ๐
Our guild is doing a workshop via Zoom with her on November 4. There are openings if youโre interested. https://cvamodernquiltguild.com/2023/10/02/zoom-workshop-with-libs-elliott/
Wow! I wish I could do this! However, I’ll be at a retreat and don’t want to be anti-social by ignoring my buddies to take this class. Thanks for letting me know anyway!!!
