Bloem–My Way

The Bloem (pronounced “bloom”) quilt by Libs Elliott caught my eye on a visit to Five Little Monkeys, and I promptly went home and made it–with a few variations.

First, of course, I drew it in EQ8 so I could make some changes and try various color schemes.

I changed a few of the blocks as well.

And finally, here it is!

And here’s a detail of the quilting.

  1. Yes! It needs to be on display for you to admire your (he)art! Do you have a place in mind? Along the staircase near that fantastic window, perhaps? Oh and Ms Nichols’ quilting really adds that perfect ‘something’ to the entire piece.

  2. I’d definitely put it where I could look at it for a while. I love the bright colors. And thanks for the illustration of the amazing different looks color and placement changes make.

  3. It’s smashingly colorful, bright, happy, and very “you.” I love what you did, and how you seem to so easily manipulate designs in EQ8. I guess I feel comfortable using EQ8, but often do not make – literally – what I have designed in that software. I need to remember to use it more often, rather than wing it by cutting up fabric, putting it on the design wall, and hoping it works! You have a gorgeous quilt here. Well done You!

    • Thank you. Yes, it’s quicker/cheaper/easier to manipulate the design in EQ than on the design wall! Of course, there’s still a chance of making design changes in fabric as well ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Wow! I wish I could do this! However, I’ll be at a retreat and don’t want to be anti-social by ignoring my buddies to take this class. Thanks for letting me know anyway!!!
