My blogging friend Elizabeth (OP Quilt) has designed a number of nice patterns and I recently found myself “forced” to make one because it is so cute. Here is one of her samples.
She has given instructions for multiple variations in the pattern. (I love all of them.)
Naturally, I didn’t quite follow the pattern. I had some cute fabric left from another project so used it for the town square in the center.
When I was finished, I wanted to make the quilt large enough to be used as a donation quilt (crib size), so I ordered some wilderness fabric to surround the town.
And here’s the finished quilt:

Name: Elizabeth’s Village
Pattern: Merrion Square, by Elizabeth Eastmond
Finished size: 39″ x 39″
Quilted by: Julia Madison
And yes, I used the same fabric for binding as for the border. You may want to check out Elizabeth’s beautiful projects on her blog and website: OPQuilt.com.
If you’re interested in her patterns, they are available through Payhip.
That is lovely all the way around! Thanks❤️
Thank you, Jenny. 🙂
How fun for you to make Elizabeth’s pattern! She is one talented lady, and I admire her for taking her classes to Zoom, so everyone can enjoy her ideas. Having met her (we were in a bee together for years) at QuiltCon on two occasions, I can vouch for her being a sweet lady too.
These quilts are beautiful. They are so much fun. We all need fun in our lives.
Yes, we certainly need fun we can enjoy at home especially!
The town square fabric you chose is perfect. And the addition of the surrounding wilderness fabric turns this into quite a storytelling quilt.
I hadn’t thought about it, but maybe whatever child gets it will imagine stories 🙂
I like your reasoning behind choosing the wilderness fabric for the background!
Thanks 🙂
Hi Mary. Love your quilt! Thinking about you after the quake and hope you and your family are ok.
Best wishes,
Mary Potts
Thank you, Mary. We hardly felt the earthquake here, so no damage.
Clever town in the woods. A fun quilt fir someone.
Thanks 🙂
Such lovely fabrics and a clever design. This quilt is going to give a child much joy
Thank you. I hope the child makes up stories for it.
What a wonderful pattern and I love your interpretation! The dark fabric large border is perfect!
Thanks. It was fun
Finally coming up for air after an onslaught of being too-busy and the place I come up is this fun post about your making the houses! I do love your version (I think I mentioned that before) and love how you made it work for you. Thank you for the shout-out!
Thanks. And being busy is good these days. Some people seem bored at home; I’m glad we are not!
