Some friends recently got together to make tote bags, so here’s the “bag show” (as opposed to a quilt show).
These were all fairly easy to make with free patterns found on the internet.
The tote bags are from a pattern posted years ago, the Market Tote Tutorial by Bijou Lovely. We did modify the instructions by using one layer of foam batting rather than interfacing both the outer fabric and the lining as in her instructions.
The pyramid bag is from a free tutorial here at Loganberry Handmade. It is way easier than it looks!
The two large totes made from oriental fabric used quilting cotton. The orange and black bags were made with upholstery fabric from IKEA.

Cats galore! I love tote bags, and whenever I buy one while traveling, my husband asks me if I don’t think I have enough already. Sigh. He just doesn’t understand. How fun that you all made these together!

I remember the pyramid bag from an older post of yours. Upon revisiting the Loganberry Handmade tutorial, I might just whip up a few as small ‘on-hand’ and/or future Christmas gifts. Perhaps they are useful as a scrap fabric&batting buster project? Got plenty of the fabric/batting scraps, now to grab a few zippers!
Yes, do that! Good as a “little gift” filled with candy (of course) or for quilty friends filled with binding clips. I’ve also made larger ones to use as gift wrap within the family, where I can re-claim them for use another time.
Love seeing bags! In Big Cypress Quilters, we recently had a program about bag-making. It was extremely informative as it covered various stabilizing options, as well as exterior fabrics from quilted cottons to vinyl, pleather, and cork. We learned that the best cork comes from Portugal. I concur about using foam in a bag – it gives it good structure and stability. I’m glad you had such a fun day!
