We seem to be trying to have a real winter here in the south! We got about 10 inches of snow over last weekend, so you know what I did.
I dug out these little blocks I had started as leaders and enders a couple of years ago. I had about 100 of them, but they finished at 4″, so I needed a lot more of something for a quilt.
When I finish a quilt I cut my scraps into strips of standard widths from 1.5″ to 4.5″ and store them in little drawers by size. I decided to use some of those to enlarge the blocks.
Eventually I ran out of precut strips in the purple and blue color family. Also, these blocks were looking awfully BUSY. So I decided to set them with alternate plain blocks.
And here it is. This will go to my friend who quilts our tops for Flying Horse Farms. I’m getting pretty close to my goal on tops for them for the first half of the year!

Wonderful snow day finish, Zippy! No more snow here, but the heat’s been off in the music studio at the Arts Center since last weekend. Good thing there’s no water (read: bathrooms) in the Music Studio Building. I ended up teaching out of the dressing room in the little theatre building all last week. Kids loved seeing themselves in the wall to ceiling mirrors that faced them while they played! HA!
Just as well to have no more snow in a place so unprepared for it, I’m guessing. Thanks for visiting and commenting π
You could definitely send snow my way, Zippy! There has never been such a dry winter here!
Love what you did with your little blocks! π
Thanks! And you would be welcome to the snow…
Well, I have heard of saving things for a rainy day. Your precut strips were just the thing for the snow days.
I guess rainy days and snow days are pretty similar π
Look at you go! Who knew it would take “only” 10.5″ of snow for you to dig out that project. π Love the snow picture. I haven’t been in that much snow for nearly 15 years. I’m happy for you! Ha, ha. Your piecing efforts turned out a lovely donation quilt. You’re so good about donating your fabric and efforts. Bless you.
Hi Linda! Thanks for your comments and encouragement.
You are the queen of using up scraps and orphan blocks! Nice scrappy quilt with a modern flair!
Wow you have a lot of snow for your part of the country, I didn’t think you got that much snow..
Well, no, we don’t usually get that much snow in central N.C. People said this might be a once-in-a-lifetime event. Certainly it was enough for me! One of my in-laws called and asked the husband if we have a snow blower and he said, “No, but I have 3 snow shovels and a wife who knows how to use them!” Of course we both shoveled π
Great response to the question and glad you had help shoveling, ha! π
