Not a traditional crazy quilt, but one that looks like only a crazy person might make it.
I very much enjoyed the process. The blocks are fairly complicated to make, so it wasn’t just a mindless task, and there was the fun of all the various fabrics. It was possible to chain piece, so I was able to listen to a book while sewing. Due to the complexity of the blocks I did make a couple of mistakes along the way, but those blocks just went into the orphan block bin. And the blocks were made from leftover fabric anyway, so no worries.
Here’s a close-up of just a few blocks. Because of the way they’re assembled and trimmed, seams don’t match exactly, which of course I like.
The pattern is Diagonal Scrap Quilt by Maryline Collioud-Robert, available here in her Etsy shop. She lives in Switzerland, but patterns are available in English as well as French. I’ve made several of her patterns and loved them all.
It took about two weeks of full time work to make the blocks. Now that they’re finished I need to put them aside for another project, but in future this quilt will get a border to “hold in the craziness” as my husband puts it. Stay tuned!

“…only a crazy person might make it.” Oh but Zippy, that’s you, don’tchya know? 🙂 I spy Fiddlestick Strips in these blocks. And I love it! Yes, to bordering and ‘holding in the craziness’. The only thing? That you added to your orphan block bin…which had no doubt gone down significantly over these past months of your fervent quilt-making. 😦

The husband has voted for dark blue for the border. It really will depend on what I have enough of in the stash (smile).

Woo-hoo! What a great design! I love the madness. It’s all so cohesive in it’s own way. And it’s a marvel to make, isn’t it? Border? You want to contain that chaos? Oh no, not me. All it needs is a black and white striped binding, and it’s perfection. Will you quilt it yourself? Just know… it’s absolutely marvelous.
I did add the border, which made it the correct size for Flying Horse Farms. However I agree that a black/white striped binding would have been a good finish too.

What a rabbit hole you sent me down. I clicked over to look at the pattern, and lo-and-behold here were four patterns I’d screenshotted this past while to make. Or hope to make, and yes, I bought them all. I still didn’t bite for your Diagonal Crazy, but I might yet!
