This week started with delivery, in pieces, of the long-awaited cabinets for the studio. There were some cabinets to be installed in another part of the house, as well, so that was a lot of pieces. These are just the ones for the studio, which got new cabinetry in three locations.
I was happy to get new storage! Of course, that required moving everything out of the old storage and stashing it elsewhere in the house, so it was a busy time and sort of a mess.
In the same time frame, my computer developed a burning-plastic smell and DIED! To be honest, I’ve known for some time that I needed a new computer, but I was hoping to wait until next month. No such luck. (Well, OK, one of my favorite Zen fables is “Good luck, bad luck, who can tell?” but I won’t tell you about that!)
We zipped over to Costco and got a new computer, and I spent many hours transferring data, installing programs, and learning the idiosyncrasies of Windows 11! Therefore, this post may or may not look right, and the photos may or may not be good, because I had to get new photo editing software and learn to use it, too.
So, it’s been a week for lots of learning, and the new cabinets in the studio look great.
The vendor will eventually deliver the rest of the door pulls, I’m sure.
I’m hoping for a quieter week coming up!

Sorry about the computer — hope the hard drive info can be easily transferred. Remodeling, whether it is a kitchen or a studio, is like hitting your head against the wall — it will feel (and look) wonderful when it’s over!
Thank you. Things are already improving.
Your studio will look amazing! Beautiful cabinetry!
Thank you! It’s great to have more storage 😀
Your ‘built-ins’ have arrived! Yay! I remember your spaces just waiting for cabinets like these. This is gonna be dynamite, Zippy.
Speaking of which (the dynamite) – “a burning-plastic smell” is never a good thing…sounds like you have it under control now, but ugh.
Meanwhile enjoy settling into your new & improved quilt studio.
Yes, those empty spaces I had when you were here look much better now. As for the burning plastic, I finally decided it was better the computer than the HVAC system–gotta look on the bright side!
Sorry to hear about the computer. Those things never happen at a convenient time. Those built-ins look amazing though. You’ll certainly have plenty of storage.
Yes, of course the computer quit at a bad time, not that there’s a GOOD time for a computer to quit! Funny how dependent we are on them, but there it is.
The cabinets look great! It looks like you’ve thought of all the details for organized and easy-to-access storage!
I’m pretty happy with the way the cabinets are working out. They match the ones in other parts of the house, so the design was pre-determined.
The cabinets are beautiful! I’m so jealous.
Thanks! I had gotten so used to my plastic drawers that I didn’t even notice how ratty they looked…ha!
Woohoo! This is exciting! Your studio makeover is so fun and exciting! 🙂
Yes, I’m excited, too. Maybe this will cut down on clutter???
Your studio just gets better and better! All that yummy storage!
Thanks. I’m pretty happy about it!
Burning anything is not good, especially a computer! Hoping that crisis is over. Also hoping that your cabinets are beautiful and now-filled. What a lift that can be! (and that your handles arrive, too).
Thanks, Elizabeth. Things are much improved here, even if not perfect!
Your blog looks perfect and the new cabinet too. You certainly have had a clean sweep
Thanks–I’m so glad to hear the photos are OK, since the new software is a “challenge”. And yes, it was a good thing to move almost everything out of the studio then put it back.
Oooo, I love your new cabinets! How nice to have a studio makeover. I could sure use one, if only for the reason to clean out everything, and put it all away organized and where it’s supposed to be. Looks like you have a lot more storage space than I do. Yay you! Sorry to know about the computer actually dying! Sounds like too much work to manually transfer, make changes, and learn new apps – though your photos look great! FYI – I use a MacBook Pro, and learned how to enlarge fonts! Easy peasy, no matter what I’m looking at on the computer screen, it’s Command Plus. So if you decide to go back to a regular-size font, I know what to do about it! Enjoy your updated work space – in the room and on the computer!
Hi Linda! Thanks for your thoughtful comments, as always.
