Of course I’ve heard of 3-yard quilt patterns, but one of my friends especially enjoys them so I recently tried one. They are smaller than I usually make, but that means they are faster, too!

That background is actually green rather than icky-gold, but I couldn’t seem to get it to show up that way!
This quilt was made from a pattern called Favorite Things in the book Make It Christmas With 3-Yard Quilts, available here. I appreciated that it was a very efficient use of fabric! I did modify the pattern a little because I had plenty of the background fabric.
This picture is the top only; my sewing machine that has a walking foot is still not at home!
Now I’m off to look for more 3-yard quilt patterns! Do you use them? Any that you particularly recommend?

I know about the 3-yard patterns and books but I haven’t made any. However, the flimsy (top) you’ve just made gives me an idea for how to use some 10″ squares that I acquired from someone’s recent destash.
Villa Rosa Quilts is another source for easy-to-make patterns that have good visual impact.
Yes! Villa Rosa patterns are well written and easy–good point!
This is the first time I have heard of three yard quilts. Is the aim to use up long yardage?
Yours is lovely.
Yes, I think the aim is to use up yardage. Many of us have plenty of that even though we have so MANY scraps too. And some of the patterns have additional instructions for making a twin size using 6 yards. Both are perfect for donation quilts.
Thanks for the info.
I’ve heard of them but never tried one. Would be a good option for a baby quilt, Maybe?
Hi Helen! Yes, it would be a great option for a baby quilt–just about the right size. You might even find some free 3-yard quilt patterns on Pinterest.
Never heard of 3 yard patterns before and now I am curious and plan to google to see what the patterns look like 🙂
Ah found YouTube channel with some cool 3 yard patterns – https://youtu.be/nFei_dWoi0Y?si=VLKybNTQ1D8N3pUI
I’m amazed at how many people haven’t heard of 3 yard patterns. They’re quite popular here and our store carries several booklets of them. Have fun!
