I recently got a fancy little addition to my studio: a thread cabinet!
Husband Steve took a woodworking class this fall and made this beautiful little cabinet. Then we didn’t have a place picked out for it. After deliberation, it landed in the studio to be used for my cones of thread! Score!
At present the finish is fresh, so I get a slight smell of linseed oil and varnish when I come into the studio! It’s very pleasant, sort of like that new car smell.
And here’s another quilt going out the door for a good cause. The 8 year old grandson has a wonderful teacher this year, so he’s giving her this quilt for the holidays. I’m showing a detail view so you can see the beautiful snowflakes quilted by Linda Nichols.
Happy holidays to all of you!

Well that Steve is a pretty handy guy! The cabinet is perfect for thread storage, though I’d need one twice as large (or maybe three times!) to hold all my threads. You’ve got a keeper there – hubs and cabinet. 🙂 How nice of you to make a quilt for your grandson’s teacher. It’s a lovely gift, and I hope the teacher lets you know she loved it. I’m hoping to hear from three teachers I made and gifted presents to last week. I think non-creators often don’t understand how much of ourselves we invest in the things we make. A thank you is always appreciated.
Thanks. We really appreciate this teacher and want her to know it. And yes, hubs is a keeper–52 years so far!
Ooooooh! Lovely! Tell Steve that John and I think he did an awesome job 🙂
Happy Thread Storage!
The quilt is wonderful too, sorry I got distracted by the cabinet 😉
Haha..thanks!
An amazing number of quilters a paired with woodworkers. I often comment that Paducah AND other venues need a woodworking show at the same time as the quilt show!
That is a brilliant idea!
…and there looks like there’s plenty of room for more cone thread…
🙂
I’ll bet not too many teachers receive a handmade quilt from a student’s grandma. I’m sure it will warm her spirit as well as her body.
The 8 year old has an excellent teacher this year; she certainly deserves a quilt
I’d have no problem filling up that gorgeous thread cabinet! Great job, Steve!
Lucky teacher, too! 🎄
Thanks, Laura!
Fantastic job from Steve, we all need thread storage
Thanks!
Both are special, beautifully made, gifts. Glad that one of them was for you!
Yes, I lucked out with the product of Steve’s woodworking class!
