We recently travelled to West Virginia on vacation, and I thought I would share some of the quilts displayed at Tamarack Marketplace, the state craft shop and travel center near Beckley.
Of course I was interested in the quilts displayed there. Here are a few pictures to give you the idea.

I had to get between two sculptures, impinging on the sides here, to get a photo of this large quilt

This is one block of a quilt that was quilted by hand and had a 3-dimensional flower superimposed on a star in each block. It looked like a lot of work!
Of course there were many other arts and crafts, not just quilts. If you’re travelling through West Virginia on the toll portion of I-64, in the southern part of the state, the Tamarack center is worth a stop. Here’s the website so you can see for yourself.

It’s always pleasant to look at traditional quilts, but I love that Hawaiian quilt! Such a happy array of colors – so much so that I didn’t even notice the design! How nice for you to have a vacation like that. Seems like you had a good get-away.
It was a nice mini-vacation and yes, I liked that Hawaiian quilt too 😀
The block with the superimposed flower caught my eye. I also love the Hawaiian quilt. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a flower done like that. I’m sure the gallery there is juried, because all the work was very good even if it wasn’t to my taste.
It’s on a section of the WV Turnpike shared by I-64 and I-77 that we often traveled between Ohio and WNC. We’d stop at the travel plaza but must admit to never taking the time to visit the craft center. Maybe it’ll happen someday on the way to Greensboro!
Hi, neighbors! Yes, the craft center is worth a visit!
I have a pillow cover I purchased at an Amish community shop in Delaware that has the same type of handstitched 3D flower in the same type of 9-patch block. Maybe it’s an Amish thing?
Aha! Maybe it is Amish. I don’t know of any Amish in West Virginia, but of course the Amish could have initiated it and then other people copied it. But what fun that you have the same design!

Fine work
It’s a wonderful stop along the highway
